XAVIER’S STUDENTS LAUNCH BI-MONTHLY TRIBAL MAGAZINE

 

 January 28, 2008: Tribal students of St Xavier's College, Ahmedabad, along with Tribal Professors of various Universities in Gujarat and other tribal people of the entire Eastern belt have come together to bring out a bi-monthly Tribal magazine. Tribals constitute 8 per cent of total Indian population and 15 per cent of Gujarat's 5.5 crores. As per the Census data 2001, the Eastern tribal belt of Gujarat contain 57 lakh tribals, of whom near 8 lakh know to read and write, 4 lakh have received secondary education and 21 thousand are graduates.

 

“With such an encouraging literacy data, a magazine of the tribals, for the tribals and by the tribals can hardly be a question. Yes, ADILOK, a tribal magazine committed to tribal identity, integrity and dignity is a concrete step towards bringing the marginalized tribals into the mainstream media,” said Fr Vinayak Jadav sj, Managing Editor, Adilok.

 

ADILOK is a joint venture of the tribal students of St. Xavier's College, Tribal Professors of various Universities in Gujarat and the tribal people of the entire Eastern belt. It will be a bi-monthly and will bring out 6 issues during the current year 2008. “Its objective is to give voice to the tribal sensibilities, their ethos, struggles, dreams and aspirations. Its customers will be the school and college related tribal teachers and students, activists committed to the tribal cause and all the tribals residing in the tribal as well as non- tribal areas,” Prof Anand Vasava, Editor, Adilok.
