DB TECH INDIA LAUNCHES NATIONAL PROJECT

April 6, 2008: The first major national project of DB Tech India was formally launched this afternoon by Fr. Godfrey D’Souza, Mumbai Vice Provincial, at a ceremony held at Don Bosco Kurla. This project, which is being supported by DMOS Comide Belgium and Jugend Dritte Welt Germany, focuses on the up-gradation of Don Bosco non formal vocational training centres, curriculum development, training of instructors and standardization of processes. Speaking during the function, Fr. D’Souza appreciated the scale and the relevance of the project.  Mr. Jochim, representative of DMOS Comide from Belgium, pointed out that this project was the first of its kind, both, for DMOS Comide as well as for the Belgian government that is funding the project.

The launching of the project was a fitting conclusion to the two day meeting of the DB Tech National Commission held at Don Bosco Kurla over the weekend. The 15 members who participated in this meeting discussed several important issues concerning vocational education in India.

During the first session on Saturday morning, Fr. Stephen Maveli presented an overview of the Don Bosco University to be set up at Guwahati. A critical point considered was the possibility of certification of our vocational training courses through this university. This may indeed be possible through the ‘distance education mode’ system. The need for staff training, the requirement of standardization of the training and assessment processes were also discussed. The second session was devoted to discussions on the proposed structure for the network. The decisions arrived at will be presented at the National Convention to be held in May.

From the post-lunch session onwards, till the conclusion of the meeting on Sunday evening, Mr. Jochim presented a detailed picture of the new national project being undertaken by DB Tech India. The objectives of the project, the implementation processes to be followed, the monitoring systems to be put in places and the evaluation of outcomes, were all discussed in minute detail.  This project aims at training 15000 youngsters annually and enabling them to enter the job market.
