YOUTH VILLAGE LAUNCHED AT KARJAT

APRIL 29, 2008: April 29 was a red-letter day in the annals of Shelter Don Bosco! On this historic day, Fr. Michael Fernandes, Provincial, blessed the Foundation Stone for Don Bosco Yuva Prathisthan (Don Bosco Youth Village) in the presence of the Provincial Council, Salesians of the Shelter Community, Priests and Religious from the nearby parishes and other well wishers.

In his speech Fr. Provincial congratulated the Shelter team, especially Fr. Xavier Devadas and Bro. Damodar, for the hard work they had put in to plan this new building. He said that this project was meant for the marginalized and they deserved the best. He also added that the project had been in the pipeline for a long time and thanks to Asha Foundation (Switzerland) we can now begin the construction work. Through this project many poor youth will be trained in life skills and also technical and agricultural skills, thus enabling them to launch out into the world of work.

Fr. Xavier Devdas thanked all present for their support and Asha Foundation for their generosity. He highlighted the need for an integral training of marginalized youth. He also thanked the contractor and the architect for actually executing this project. A special word of thanks went to Fr. Anaclete D’Mello and Fr. Barnabe D’Souza for their role in planning the project and obtaining the required funds. We now look forward to the speedy completion of the construction and the launching of the training programmes for poor and marginalized youngsters.
